I like stories where the heroes solve problems with clever solutions. Using their environment and subtle advantages to the fullest, like they're detectives as much as they are fighters.

Do you really think I'd write a protagonist that just punches their way through every problem?

[If so, Rohan is insulted.]

If the story called for it I think you would.

Sometimes. But generally, it's something I prefer to avoid. It's rare where just punching is actually the clever solution and overusing it anyway robs it the moments in which it is.

Is that your philosophy in real life, too? The clever solution is superior to the physical one.

[nibs]

What do you mean "in real life, too?" I don't write from my imagination, I write from reality. That's what makes for a compelling story that others want to read because it's something that even the simplest of minds can easily recognize in front of them. That's where true depth and connection with readers comes from.

You should already know the answer to that question anyways. It's not as though you purely use Star Platinum to pummel, do you?

[And he would double know that if he knew Heaven's Door wasn't really a combat Stand. Of course Rohan's going to seek out another solution besides beating the hell out of someone/thing.]

Hell if I know what goes into the creative process. It'd be arrogant to pretend like I did, wouldn't it? So I asked.

And no, he has other talents. It's been kind of weird being here and seeing those things more often, since I don't fight a whole lot anymore in comparison.

What sort of talents have you discovered?

He's a high-precision Stand. He's surprisingly well-suited for very delicate work. So he can reproduce images of things he sees at a high and precise rate.

He also...I don't know. I guess it's most accurate to say he has a degree of independence. In a battle situation there isn't much room to explore something like that, but I'm learning a lot about the way the relationship works, as far as he's concerned.

[Hm... While it's true that Rohan hadn't exactly observed much of Jotaro and Star Platinum interacting, that does seem rather unique to Jotaro here with his given experiences. Interesting. It does lead one to wonder...]

Independence in what way?

He...I guess one way to say it is, he has preferences. Ones that aren't identical to mine.

We let him try eating, as an experiment. He liked that, for example.

I've never heard of a Stand being interested in food before.

[A Stand being, you know, sorta part of food? Sure. Eating it themselves? Weird.]

I've seen one that had six individual personalities over six individual parts of the same Stand. They'd bicker among themselves and liked to eat pizza.

Some are just different, I guess.

Well, that's certainly an interesting reflection of its user.

So would you say you've been encouraging Star Platinum's independence or simply observing it?

[starmark]

Mostly encouraging. Why?

There's a difference between simply observing and encouraging that would result in different behaviors.

[Duh.]

Can your Stand act on its own without your approval?

[nibs]

Not to the extent of Star Platinum.

[starmark]

That's what I mean. If I don't "encourage" him to act independently, he'll get confused about what it is I want him to do. Acting independently in combat is different from acting independently in an average situation. Battle is more like independent response.

Was it meeting the other Stand user that inspired this decision to encourage more independence?

[starmark]

...No. It was something else.

I'd rather not talk about what led to it. It was personal.
